Date Taxes Become Due
The gross tax amount is due and payable in March to the Tax Collector. Discounts of 4% in November, 3% in December, 2% in January, 1% in February are given for early payment. Taxes become delinquent April 1st. Taxes are levied on a calendar-year basis, being paid in arrears for the period January 1st to December 31st.

Exemption Filing Period

The annual filing period for Homestead Exemption is January 1st through March 1st.
Visit our office at the Government Center in Sebring to file applications for all exemptions.

The following is a list of all exemptions offered to you as a resident of Florida:
  • Homestead Exemption:
    In order to qualify you must own the home and land and make it your permanent residence on or before January 1. You must also be a permanent resident of the state of Florida as well as being either a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident. In addition, you cannot be receiving any tax-based benefits in any other state. (Be prepared to provide your driver’s license or ID card, vehicle and voter registration numbers.)
  • Additional Senior Homestead Exemption ($15,000):
    To qualify you must meet the requirements listed above for homestead exemption and you must have a household income equal to or less than the current current adjusted income limit set by the Department of Revenue and be over 65 years of age as of January 1. This exemption amount applies only to the taxable value for the Board of County Commissioners. For more details on income requirements for this exemption you may contact our office.
  • Widowed Exemption ($5000):
    To qualify you must meet the same criteria as listed above for Homestead Exemption and you must have become widowed on or before January 1.
  • Disability Exemptions:
    Disability exemptions vary according to the type and level of disability. This includes veteran’s exemptions. To qualify you must meet the same requirements listed above for Homestead Exemption. Additionally, certain requirements regarding doctor’s, Social Security Administration, Veteran’s Affairs or income documentation will be requested. You can contact our office.
